Off the axis spin of the Earth
Held in place by many forces such as the gravity, the earth’s axis is tilted at about 23.5°. Because of this, we have two hemispheres pointing to and away from the Sun one after the other, which is responsible for the seasons. Now, guess what will happen if this tilt changes its way. This estimation is beyond our imaginations making the planet to be thrown into the sun. This change with the help of adequate energy can be circular or hyperbolic enough to destroy the entire foundation of Earth. It will lead to tremendous heating making Antarctica to boil, rivers to flood, and volcanoes to erupt enormously.
Super volcano eruptions
A supervolcano has the power to emit over 240 cubic miles, thousands of times bigger than the past eruptions. Although there are very few supervolcanoes, the frightening fact is that when they erupt, they usually spread over vast zones with its lava and volcanic ash making a permanent change to climate and causing the death of species. Mount Tambora of Indonesia and volcano of Yellowstone are supervolcanoes of which Tambora last exploded in 1815 leading to unimaginative disasters and changes in climate.
The Big Freeze
As per the discoveries, the cosmos will continue to expand forever due to which it will finally cool making it difficult to sustain life on Earth. So, it is inevitable that the future will witness The Big Chill whose main cause will be global warming that is depleting ozone and gamma radiations. As per the history, Earth has already seen 3 ice-ages due to warming of volcanoes and meteors.
But, this time it is humans to do so.
The working goes like this – global warming will affect the Atlantic Conveyer Belt that sends warm tropical water to the western European coast. Sinking down on the bed, the water will cool and release the heat into the atmosphere, which is the main cause for the average winters in the continent as against the wild winters of North America. So, ice-age conditions can be seen.
Nuclear destruction
Can you recall the nuclear bombing of the World War II in Hiroshima and Nagasaki? To add to that still alive fear, nuclear weapons are still being made with the advanced technologies, which have the power to trigger a non-healing chain reaction. So, if nuclear wars tend to happen in future, it is more likely to destroy most of the Earth this time! Although the nuclear wars seem almost unlikely, nobody can guarantee its arrival. Further, it might not take place directly but via a faulty exchange or a technical fault.
Alien attacks
Our universe is filled with over 100 billion galaxies holding over same amount of stars and planets. So, it is not difficult to believe that life can exist on any of these planets due to which the topic of aliens has got its own boost. In the past decades, many have claimed to see their unique spaceships, UFOs, and even aliens too in America. In fact, it is said that the aliens are intelligent beings who are forward in technology. And if they want to capture Earth and its resources, then how we will be spared is an alarming question as no invasions of the human past are without the annihilation of the great cities and kingdoms.
Human mutants
Genetic engineering is superb for fulfilling the food requirements and removing the defects due to faulty genes, but it does not end there. It takes a step ahead by isolating the genes of different human characteristics to make super humans. Playing with the natural evolution of the humans, it can change both the physical and mental characteristics to form a highly evolved super human. Well, it is not yet realized that these superior ones will create havoc for the humble ancestors.
Geomagnetic reversal
As per the lava flow study across the globe, the Earth’s magnetic field reverses at regular intervals, the average being 300,000 years. But, the last time when this happened was before 780,000 years ago. It is this field that safeguards the planet from the cosmic radiations, solar wind, and the subatomic particles in space. If this is not there, then the Stone Age will be back on Earth. Sadly, this magnetic strength has been reduced by 5% in the last century.
Robot invasion
It is predicted by 2040, the intelligent robots will compete humans in terms of intelligence and consciousness. BBC has revealed that a humanoid robot is out who knows to walk. In short, they all will soon do all our household and official chores. But, the fact remains that these intelligent microchips might overtake the weak brains and so will not accept slavery. With artificial intelligence having no limits to what it can do, these robots can become killers as there will be no ethics in them. After all, they are machines! Recall Spiderman II!
Enormous epidemics
Recall the infectious disease of plague caused by Pasteurella pestis, which took the live of ever 1 out of 4 people in the 14th century Europe. As per the scientists, plague can take a form of a deadly monster due to new bacteria that emerge continuously by biotechnological accident or evolution. Further, old epidemics of cholera and measles are becoming resistant to antibiotics because the new varieties of the organisms causing it are evolving constantly.
Giant asteroid clash
As per the scientist’s research, an asteroid resulted in mass extinction 65 million years ago on the planet. This one was 10 to 12 km in diameter, less than 0.2% of the Earth’s diameter and could hit the planet due to the tremendous kinetic energy. Currently, the Kuiper belt close to Neptune holding 100,000 asteroids transmits a continuous set of small comets towards the planet. If at all a huge one comes and strikes no matter where, it will be disastrous. Objects having a width of over half a mile tend to hit the planet every 250,000 years and that they would lead to splitting the Earth into pieces.
